Blake Anderson took a leave of absence on Aug. 19 from his team at Arkansas State to be with his wife, Wendy, and their children as she battled breast cancer. The disease took her a day later.

In the 18 days since, Anderson has been with their three children as the family looks to move past the unthinkable, and clearly his team at Arkansas State did not expect him to join them as they visited UNLV on Saturday.

Which made it all the more surprising and emotional when he showed up.

Though clearly football isn’t the most important thing in Anderson’s life at the moment, he did top the day off by leading the Red Wolves to a 43-17 victory.
