Western Illinois makes head coaching change (team meeting)

Myers Hendrickson is out at Western Illinois after just two seasons atop the Leathernecks program.

Hired in December 2021, Hendrickson tried to revive the WIU program but saw his teams win just two of 22 games.

Sources told FootballScoop that Hendrickson was relieved of his duties early Sunday; later Sunday afternoon, WIU Athletics Director Paul Bubb later said in a statement that he had met with Hendrickson to inform him that "an immediate change in leadership is a necessary step moving forward."

The Leathernecks, who compete at the FCS level in the Missouri Valley Conference, have as a program just two winning seasons since 2009.

WIU had gone 5-6 and 1-11 in the two years prior to Hendrickson's arrival.

Hendrickson had enjoyed a brilliant run atop the Kansas Wesleyan program, where he won at the helm of the KWU program.

Additionally, Hendrickson's decision to accept the WIU head coaching position two years ago was a bit of an homecoming; he played wide receiver for the Leathernecks in college.

WIU's Bubb has set a team meeting that will be held Monday morning.
