The thing about uniforms is they're supposed to be, ahem, uniform.
There are exceptions, of course, like Alabama (and others) putting each player's number on their helmet, or the service academies specializing their uniforms to honor different divisions of their respective branches.
We now have a new entry into the exceptions category, and it's adorable.
For Tuesday's game against Liberty, Western Kentucky will wear helmets with their famed, McDonald's character-core mascot Big Red in different football poses.
There are seven in all.
What's better than one Big Red?

The helmets are an evolution of a decal that first hit the field for WKU's Nov. 12, 2022 win over Rice. Those helmets only had Big Red in one pose, but now there are seven -- one for every position group.

Each helmet is outfit with a pair of Big Red's googly eyes as the nose bumper.

The comedy of Western Kentucky's helmets will be juxtaposed with the drama on the field. At 2-1 in C-USA play, Saturday night's game is important for the 'Toppers conference title hopes: a win keeps WKU in the thick of the race alongside 5-0 Liberty, 4-1 Jacksonville State and 3-1 New Mexico State. A loss all but clinches Liberty's berth in the title game while putting WKU behind Jacksonville State and NMSU in the race for the second spot in the championship.
Big Red and the players wearing him will hit the field at 7:30 p.m. ET Tuesday in a game televised by ESPNU.
As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
