It's the fourth quarter -- more specifically, well into the fourth quarter. Not quite the end of the game, but not the first minute, either. You're up one. Crunch time.
Fortunately, you just scored a touchdown to put you up seven. Now you're faced with a decision. Do you send the kicking team on the field for a PAT, or do you keep the offense on the field and go for two?
Most coaches reflexively send their kicking team on the field, just like Andy Reid did last night.
Sunday night's Super Bowl provided a launching point for the FootballScoop team's larger discussion on game management in that situation. I gave my opinion earlier in the day -- the risk of missing the 2-point try (and remaining up seven, instead of eight) is far, far worth the reward of getting the 2-point try and stretching your lead to nine.
Scott agreed with me (as I demanded before we started filming), but Doug brought a different perspective, having made a similar decision with actual stakes on the line and coming out on the wrong end of it.
It's an interesting discussion, check it out.
