Will Healy led Charlotte to a 7-5 regular season and a Bahamas Bowl appearance in his first season on the job, and the 49ers' brass was satisfied enough to sign up for more of the Healy Experience.
UNC-Charlotte's board of trustees on Tuesday approved a 2-year extension with a $55,000 raise, taking his salary to $755,000. Healy is now under contract through Jan. 31, 2026, according to the Charlotte Observer.
Healy also agreed to a number of incentives:
-- a $50,000 retention bonus following the 2020, '21 and '22 seasons
-- 20 percent of any increase in football ticket sales
-- interestingly, a $500,000 bonus if Charlotte reaches 21 regular-season wins over the next three seasons
If another coach has a multi-year bonus structure similar to that one, I'm not aware of it.
The paper also reported Healy was offered a $100,000 signing bonus but deferred that money to increase his assistants' salary pool. That $100,000 bump will become permanent for any season in which Charlotte wins eight regular-season games.
Additionally, Charlotte has committed to a $1.3 million renovation to the 49ers' locker room, and AD Mike Hill received a 1-year extension through June 25, 2025.
