Following Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zenger's dismissal yesterday, which solicited a statement on the job security of head coach David Beaty in the school's official release, more than a few folks were floating the name Willie Fritz if the new Jayhawk AD decided to take things in a different direction upon coming on board.
Our own Zach Barnett was one of many to float the opinion.
So it surely was no coincidence that today Tulane announced a contract extension for Fritz keeping him with the Green Wave through 2024.
Fritz left Georgia Southern after two successful seasons where they went 9-3 and 8-4 for the rebuilding job at Tulane. In two seasons leading the Green Wave Fritz has gone 4-8 and then 5-7.
Beyond the on-field product, which is greatly improved by all accounts, Fritz has re-energized the program, has done a great job with branding Tulane football nationally, and has folks outside the Tulane footprint excited and talking about Green Wave football for the first time in a long while. There's certainly a new buzz around the program where people are excited about the future again.
