Wisconsin has made a change at offensive coordinator (Wisconsin)

Head coach Luke Fickell has announced a change at offensive coordinator.

After 23 games, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Phil Longo has been relieved of his duties.

"This morning, I informed that he will no longer serve as our offensive coordinator," Fickell shared in the school's release.

"After continuing to evaluate the program, I decided we are not where we need to be and believe this decision is in the best interest of the team. I appreciate Phil's commitment to helping us build our program over the past two seasons and wish him well moving forward. This team still has a lot in front of us and I am committed to doing everything we can to close out this season with success."

Longo left his post as the offensive coordinator for Mack Brown and North Carolina to join Fickell in Madison.

With the Tar Heels, Longo's offenses combined power run schemes that were heavy in 11 personnel with Air Raid pass concepts, and they set a number of records and quarterbacks  like Drake Maye and Sam Howell to the NFL, along with explosive receivers like Josh Downs.

His hire in Madison was widely celebrated, but injuries at key spots proved difficult to overcome.

While the Badgers were able to make splashes with transfer portal quarterback additions like Tanner Mordecai (SMU) and Tyler VanDyke (Miami), both of whom seemed like ideal fits for Longo's offense, both players were sidelined with injuries the past two seasons, playing in just a fraction of the games they were expected to contribute in.

Back in early October the Badgers were also dealt a blow when leading rusher Chez Melusi had decided to step away from the team in an effort to get healthy.

Before his stops at UNC at Wisconsin, Longo spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Ole Miss and has stops at Sam Houston State and Slippery Rock as well.
