The XFL season ended a month ago with the Vegas Vipers and Rod Woodson finishing a disappointing 2-8.
Now, the Vipers are on the search for a new head coach.
Woodson the league announced over the weekend that they have mutually agreed to part ways.
Woodson, a legendary member of the College and Pro Football Hall of Fames, coached in the NFL for a few seasons following a 17-year playing career. He worked with the corners for the Raiders in 2011 and 2017, and the chance in the XFL with the Vipers was his first head coaching opportunity.
"We want to thank Rod for his hard work and commitment to the Vipers and the League last season," XFL President Russ Brandon shared in a release.
"During Rod's time with the team, the players had an incredible opportunity to learn and benefit from his experience. He left an indelible mark on all the coaches, staff, and players. We wish Rod and his family all the best in their future pursuits."
"After speaking with my family and members of the football operations team, we decided it was in our mutual interest for me to step away from the team," Woodson added in the XFL release.
The league notes that the search process for his replacement will begin immediately.
The XFL announced last week that they're planning to play a second season, which is more than the first two launches of the league could say. They're hopeful for the future of the league, despite a loss of $60 million in year one.
