Growing an endeavor that’s become a noteworthy and anticipated staple, FootballScoop is forging ahead with new collaboration for its annual “Minority Rising Stars Watch List” as the 2023 college football season draws near.
FootballScoop is continuing to enhance its annual spotlight on the sport’s ascendant minority coaches. In recent years, FootballScoop’s Minority Rising Stars spotlights have seen previous honorees make significant career moves – including multiple honorees move from multiple divisions of college football to the NFL.
Working directly with Marshall head coach Charles Huff, FootballScoop is continuing to enhance its annual spotlight on the sport’s ascendant minority coaches. Huff, along with other coaches, will provide editorial support and oversight of the selection criteria.
For the 2023 edition, FootballScoop is unveiling a pair of new components – all nominations are to be submitted via this form and, adding depth to this process, candidates will be recognized a variety of stages of career development.
The 2023 edition will spotlight rising coaching stars in the following categories:
-- The first grouping with focus on the upper tiers of collegiate football and seek to spotlight coaches who already are in coordinator/leadership roles who are poised to take their next steps in professional development as prime head coaching candidates
-- Next, the focus will be on Football Bowls Subdivision assistants who are seen as growing into position for greater roles, such as emerging top candidates for offensive, defensive and special teams coordinator roles
-- Additionally, FootballScoop and its partners in this project will focus on the FCS level and those coaches who are poised to perhaps either climb from the FCS to the FBS ranks or ready to move from FCS assistant roles into leadership positions
-- Lastly, FootballScoop this year will feature a category dedicated to coaches in college football’s other divisions – NCAA Division II, III, NAIA and junior college – who could be ready to make key leaps in the sport.

FootballScoop will keep open the nomination process for this year’s Minority Rising Stars through Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, and then unveil final honorees prior to the kick off of the 2023 football season.
