North Carolina has announced an extension for head coach Larry Fedora through the 2022 season.
Fedora, 54, will remain on North Carolina's payroll through his 60th birthday.
The new contract will increase Fedora's contract by $1 million over the next four seasons. He earned $2 million last season with a raise to $2.25 million in '17, rising to $3 million by 2020.
North Carolina also included Fedora's bonus structure in the announcement.
“We are pleased that the Board of Trustees has approved the terms of Coach Fedora’s contract, which will allow him to continue our football program's success into the next decade,” UNC athletics directorBubba Cunningham said in a statement. “Under his leadership, our student-athletes are succeeding in the classroom, contributing positively to our community – and competing for championships. We know this was a lengthy process, but we wanted to make sure the terms were appropriate for both Coach Fedora and the University.”
Fedora is 40-25 in five seasons at North Carolina; his .615 winning percentage is second best among all UNC coaches since the founding of the ACC in 1953. North Carolina has reached bowl eligibility in all five of Fedora's campaigns, including an 11-3 mark, an undefeated ACC regular season and a No. 15 final ranking in 2015. North Carolina was 8-5 with a Sun Bowl appearance in 2016.
