Defensive lineman Jay Hayes and the rest of his Notre Dame teammates learned a valuable lesson this week: if you want to vent about your coaches, do it some place other than your social media accounts.
"When a coach stops coaching you..that's when you jus gotta move on," Hayes tweeted Wednesday. "Gotta get this natty and I'm out." The tweet has since been deleted. A sophomore, Hayes has appeared in three career games, and none so far this season.
Brian Kelly used the opportunity to swat Hayes to take a rolled up newspaper to Hayes's nose and provide a nice real-world lesson to the rest of the Irish.
"You have to think before you hit send, and what you have to do is knock on my door instead of hitting the send button," Kelly told reporters on Thursday, via ESPN. "If he has a job at Google and talks about his boss that way, he probably is not going to have a job the next day.
"You just tell them, 'Look, you need to make a better decision next time or it's going to impact you when you leave here.' He won't be on the travel roster this week for that mistake."
