Notre Dame's Kelly jokes Augusta National 'course is easy' (Augusta National Golf Club)

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly's golfed at some of the most renowned courses across the United States and around the globe.

That includes Augusta National, the center of the sports world this weekend as it hosts the 85th Masters Tournament.

Kelly was asked not once but twice Saturday about his thoughts on this weekend's first golf Major as his Notre Dame football squad completed roughly the first half of its spring camp.

"To me, the Masters is always about, 'Can we get a very competitive situation around Amen Corner?',” Kelly said of the fabled holes No. 11, 12 and 13 that so often dictate the Masters' trajectory. “To me, it's not the individual as much as is it's the tournament itself. Can you create an atmosphere around Amen Corner?

"Because when I've played, the course is easy. So, when I play it, I shoot under par every time. I just like to watch these guys make a mess of themselves because for me to play golf at Augusta, with the ease that I play it and do this job, I just think why can't these guys play better golf on Sunday?”

Kelly then dropped his deadpan-comedy act.

"Anyway, I'm obviously full of (crap) too,” Kelly told reporters. “You know that, right? I'll tell you what, there was nobody there and I was nervous on the first tee, so I can't imagine how these guys even get around the course."

Kelly said he would like to see Jordan Spieth get the green jacket this weekend because “he's had a tough few years.”

Spieth was four shots off the leader at 5-under par through the fourth hole of his third round Saturday afternoon.
