Pitt fires offensive coordinator (Frank Cignetti)

On the heels of a disappointing 2023 season that saw Pittsburgh post its worst record under Pat Narduzzi, the Panthers have fired second-year offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti.

A veteran coach whom Narduzzi hired away from his role as Boston College's offensive coordinator, Cignetti shuffled through quarterbacks and other obstacles in an 3-9 campaign.

"I want to thank Frank for his service and dedication to our program the past two years," Narduzzi said in a statement. "We wish him the very best in his future endeavors."

The Panthers lost four of their final five games and they scored more than 30 points against an Power 5 foe just once -- their upset of then-undefeated Louisville.

Sources told FootballScoop that additional changes would not be unexpected at Pitt.

Pitt is just two years removed from winning the ACC championship and advancing to a New Year's Six bowl.

The Panthers, sources said, already have begun their search for Cignetti's replacement.
