Raiders make a number of offensive staff changes, including at coordinator (james cregg)

After a 2-7 start to his first full season leading the organization, Antonio Pierce has decided to make some changes.

In the midst of their first five-game losing streak dating back to 2018, offensive coordinator Luke Getsy has been fired following the teams' 41-24 loss to the Bengals on Sunday.

The change at coordinator marks the fourth time in the past five seasons that the Raiders have made a switch at coordinator or head coach in the middle of a season.

Getsy, who previously oversaw some of the best rushing offenses in the league as the offensive coordinator with the Bears the past two seasons, had one of the worst rushing offenses in the league this year and they ranked 26th out of 32 NFL teams in scoring at just 18 points per game.

Looking back, the organization's unwillingness to move off their stance of a two-year contract for the offensive coordinator spot and go to a three-year deal led to missing out on Kliff Kingsbury, who is now lighting up scoreboards with a dynamic rookie quarterback with the Commanders.

Chip Kelly, now at Ohio State calling plays for Ryan Day, was another high profile candidate for the offensive coordinator job under Pierce.

Pierce also decided a new direction was needed in two other spots, as offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello were also let go in their first season with the team.

Including his 9-game run as the team's interim head coach last season, when he went 5-4 and undoubtedly won over the locker room, Pierce is 7-11 leading the Raiders. Before taking the reigns in Vegas, the popular player's coach only other head coaching experience was at California prep powerhouse Long Beach Poly.
