Today we continue our ranking of the top non-FBS head coaching opportunities with an initial look at the Division III level. Last week, we wrapped up our series ranking the top NAIA head coaching destinations after ranking Marian (IN) #1 and Morningside (IA) #2, respectively.
A lot of folks who are familiar with small college ball will jump to the conclusion that the top two or three spots are pretty locked in, but is that accurate? There are a lot of quality Division III head coaching jobs out there, and there's a reason many of these top jobs don't come open very often.
Again, the factors being considered as we put this list together are tradition, location, administrative and community support, potential, and one other category weโll simply refer to as momentum.
Among the schools being considered:
- Mount Union (OH)
- Wisconsin-Whitewater
- North Central (IL)
- Mary Hardin-Baylor (TX)
- Wesley (DE)
- Linfield (OR)
- Wheaton (IL)
- St. Thomas (MN)
- St. John's (MN)
- Wisconsin-Oshkosh
- Berry (GA)
We've reached out to a number of small college coaches for their valuable insight, and welcome the input from readers as well. Who should be included in the top 5 and, perhaps more importantly, why are they deserving? Let me know via Twitter @CoachSamz, or email me at doug@footballscoop.com.
