July 1, 2024 is a day that has been talked about for a while now, ever since the dominoes of realignment were reactivated following the announcement that Texas and Oklahoma were leaving the Big 12 for the SEC.
As we all know now, the move by the Sooners and Longhorns would spark a chain reaction that ultimately led to the death of the Pac-12 as we know it, as just two teams (Oregon State and Washington State) remain in the league formerly referred to as "The Conference of Champions."
Here we are going to recap all of the moves.
There will be 134 FBS teams total this fall, with the move of Kennesaw State making the jump from FCS to Conference USA. Next year the number will rise to 136 with Delaware and Missouri State set to make the jump.
67 teams now make up the Power Four, comprised of the Big Ten (18), ACC (17), and the SEC (16) and Big 12 (16).
Here's a look at how many teams are in each league now, the new additions, as well as the teams that left.
