Des Kitchings is set to join the South Carolina staff, according to Gamecock Central.
Kitchings spent the past eight seasons at NC State, a holdover from Tom O'Brien's staff that remained under Dave Doeren, rising from running backs coach to co-offensive coordinator.
Kitchings was the odd man out after Doeren hired Tim Beck as the Wolfpack's offensive coordinator in December. Beck will handle quarterbacks in addition to coordinating the offense, and 2019 quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper shifted to running backs, leaving Kitchings without a spot on the staff.
Kitchings will replace wide receivers coach Bryan McClendon, who FootballScoop first reported is leaving for the same job at Oregon.
Gamecock Central reported Kitchings will coach the Gamecocks' running backs. The staff does not currently list a running backs coach. Thomas Brown coached the position in 2019; he was hired by the Los Angeles Rams in February. The Charleston Post & Courierspeculated upon McClendon's departure that Bobby Bentley could move back to tight ends, a position he has coached previously at South Carolina, and Joe Cox, hired as tight ends coach, could move back to receivers, a position he coached at Colorado State in 2019.
Mike Bobo was hired as South Carolina's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in December.
Kitchings is a South Carolina native and a member of Furman's athletics hall of fame.
