After two seasons with Jim McElwain at Central Michigan, Chippewas offensive coordinator Charlie Frye is on the move.
Pete Thamel was first to share the news. The team has since announced the decision, sharing that Frye has been hired and Robby Brown and the team have parted ways.
Frye, a former 3rd round pick at quarterback out of Akron in 2005, is leaving for the quarterbacks job on Brian Flores' staff with the Dolphins. There, he will have the opportunity to tutor former Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who many view as the future of the organization.
NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks shares, when Tua was coming out of high school, Frye was his coach at the Elite 11 competition that features the top high school quarterbacks in the country.
After a playing career in the leauge that took him from Cleveland, to Seattle to Oakland, Frye got his start as an offensive coordinator at the Florida HS level at Jones HS (FL) and then Wekiva HS (FL).
In 2016 he joined the Florida staff as director of player development, where he initially crossed paths with McElwain.
He left to join the Ashland (D-II - OH) staff in 2018 as wide receivers coach before reuniting with McElwain at Central Michigan in 2019.
In Miami, Frye will be on of a handful of new faces for the Dolphins staff after a number of changes, including at offensive coordinator with Chan Gailey resigning earlier this month.
The move marks the 27th offensive coordinator change at the FBS level.
