Matt Entz to be new NDSU head coach (Featured)

This morning we updated everyone on the search, noting that defensive coordinator Update on the North Dakota State head coaching search

This afternoon NDSU made it official.

Entz's has run NDSU's defense since Klieman ascended to the head coaching role, and worked previously under Klieman as Northern Iowa's defensive line coach in 2010. A multi-year FCS Coordinator of the Year finalist (including 2018), Entz has produced a litany of top-ranked defenses while serving as Klieman's shotgun rider for the past half decade.

From NDSU's release:

"Having watched Matt as the defensive coordinator for the past five years," NDSU AD Matt Larsen said, "I knew he possessed the qualities to be the head football coach at North Dakota State: leadership, integrity, toughness, and a sincere appreciation for the history and tradition of Bison football."

"I'm eager to work with Coach Entz and his staff as they continue building upon the championship tradition of Bison football," Larsen said, "and I'm excited for his wife, Brenda, and two sons, Kellen and Konner."

This will be the first head coaching job for Entz, a 21-year veteran assistant coach with 15 years of experience as a defensive coordinator and eight as an associate head coach in two programs. At NDSU, he's been part of five Missouri Valley Football Conference championships and three NCAA national championships with the Bison.

Pete Thamel, with Yahoo Sports, reported the move shortly before NDSU released it.
