Steve Spurrier was a staple on college football sidelines for decades, so after his resignation (not retirement) announcement, many (including myself) have wondered how he is going to spend his first Saturday not coaching or playing in a game since 1963.
Well, according to Buddy Martin (who is penning a biography on Spurrier scheduled to come out next summer) and GridIron Now, Spurrier's Saturday plans include an appearance as a guest in Ann Arbor on College GameDay for the Michigan State vs. Michigan game.
From Gridiron Now:
He said in his presser that he wanted to be classified as “resigned” and not “retired.” He wasn’t kidding. As a matter of fact, those of you who thought he was out buying a rocking chair this week and sizing up a new pair of Crocs for walking on the beach, think again. He won’t miss a beat.
I can give you this tip: Spurrier will be back on the job before you know it. Hint: Watch ESPN’s “College GameDay” from Ann Arbor, Mich., on Saturday morning.
On behalf of fans of college football everywhere, please let this be true.
If we can't have Spurrier on the sidelines then I guess College GameDay is a solid compromise.
Back on the 12th when news of Spurrier's retirement started to spread, I called for two things;
One thing down ESPN (even if it's only temporary)...and one more to go.
Update: Spurrier has just confirmed the news on The Dan Patrick Show.
