According to a report from Horns247 today, Texas is bolstering their support staff with the addition of a recent major college head coach and also a recent FBS defensive coordinator.
The report states that former Texas State head coach Everett Withers and former NC State defensive coordinator Dave Huxtable are both joining the staff in analyst roles.
Withers spent last season coaching the defensive backs for the New York Giants, and had a one year stint as the defensive coordinator at FIU before leaving for the NFL. Prior to that he was the head coach at Texas State, and had a successful run as the head coach at James Madison. In two seasons at JMU (2014-15), Withers went 18-7 leading the team to the FCS playoffs each season, including a win in 2015 before bowing out in the second round. Withers failed to find the same success at Texas State. In three seasons with the Bobcats from 2016-18, Withers went 2-10, 2-10 and 3-8 before being let go.
Huxtable was the defensive coordinator for Dave Doeren at NC State from 2013-19 before being let go back in December after a 4-7 season. He previously called defenses at Pitt (2012), Georgia Tech (1996-97), and Western Kentucky (1989) and has worked on the defensive side of the ball as an assistant at ECU, Georgia Tech Oklahoma State, UNC, UCF, and Wisconsin.
The additions of Huxtable and Wither in off-field roles join new coordinators Mike Yurcich and Chris Ash in Austin as the latest big hires for Tom Herman's Longhorns staff heading into a critical 2020 season. Herman has gone 7-6, 10-4, and 8-5 in his three seasons in Austin.
