For the past few weeks, the connection between Urban Meyer and a possible opening at Texas had sent fans and message forums into a frenzy.
That appears to have come to an end, according to a report this evening.
Chip Brown tweets that the Longhorns flirtation with Meyer appears to have come to an end, as the three-time national championship coach has indicated to the Longhorns that he's leaning toward not coaching again, citing health reasons.
We previously reported via sources that not all of Urban's key Buckeye support staff members, if any, would be inclined to leave Columbus should Urban take another job.
Brown adds, that with Meyer out of the mix, "there's a chance Tom Herman will remain as coach of the Texas Longhorns," and that decision makers have also "researched" Steve Sarkisian (Alabama OC), Mario Cristobal (Oregon HC), James Franklin (Penn State) and Matt Campbell (Iowa State HC).
Herman, who is 31-18 over the last four seasons, would have been owed a hefty $25 million buyout as he is under contract for another three seasons. The only way that makes sense (especially considering the pandemic we're all facing) is if you can land a guy like Meyer.
The Longhorns put it on Kansas Sate over the weekend, scoring nearly 70 points in a 69-31 win and they have a winless Kansas squad on deck for this coming weekend.
Update >> Kirk Bohls confirmed Brown's report late last night, and added that UT is "sorting through" what to do next.
