According to multiple reports tonight, after fielding interest from a number of schools, Appalachian State head coach Eli Drinkwitz has reached an agreement to be the new head coach at Missouri.
No official word from the school yet, but Chris Low of ESPN was among the first to share the news.
The following is from an update on Drink that we did earlier today:
The 36-year-old on Saturday completed his first regular season as Appalachian State’s head coach with a Sun Belt championship. While clearly benefitting from the program’s strong tradition and the foundation laid by Scott Satterfield and his staff, Drinkwitz’s first season saw the Mountaineers score wins over North and South Carolina while also becoming the first team in the Sun Belt’s 19-year history to ever post a 12-1 record.
If not for a 24-21 loss to Georgia Southern on Halloween night, App State is sitting at 13-0 and likely the likely choice as the top Group of 5 team to make a special trip to the Cotton Bowl.
Doubters will point to Drink's lone season leading the Mountaineers to a conference title and the best record in school history as riding on the coattails of Scott Satterfield, but the reality is that Eli has been viewed as a rapid riser in the coaching profession for quite some time now.
Just 15 years ago Drinkwitz was a head middle school coach. Soon, he'll be formally appointed to one of the most coveted coaching positions in college football - the leader of an SEC program.
