Last week, Brad Lambert was reportedly one of the finalists for the Marshall job that eventually went to Alabama associate head coach Charles Huff.
That decision put the architect of one of college football's best defenses in a challenging 2020 season for everyone on the market.
According to reports today, Purdue is hiring Lambert in a co-defensive coordinator / linebackers coach role.
Lambert was a Broyles Award nominee this past season after leading a unit that led college football in scoring defense, allowing just 13 points per game. The aggressive Thundering Herd defense also also ranked 4th in rush defense and 11th in pass defense as well.
The former head coach at Charlotte from 2013-18, Lambert went 22-48 with the 49ers and led the team's transition the team transitioned from FCS to C-USA after year two. He was let go after the 2018 season and landed on Doc’s Marshall staff for the 2019 season.
The other co-defensive coordinator on Purdue's staff is Anthony Poindexter, who works with the secondary and is in his fourth season in West Lafayette after previously serving as the defensive coordinator at UConn for three seasons.
Bob Diaco led the Boilermakers defense in 2020 for one season, before being dismissed is mid-December after a disappointing season.
