Brandon Moore, whose climb to Colorado School of Mines was yet another step on his ascending coaching journey, has another major move on the horizon.
Sources with direct knowledge tell FootballScoop that Moore is going to be the next head coach at the University of San Diego.
Late Wednesday evening, San Diego announced Moore's addition as the program's new head coach.
He led Colorado School of Mines to an 13-win season that culminated in the NCAA Division II national championship game against eventual champion Ferris State.
A former player under Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, Moore produced a strong career for the Sooners before he transitioned into coaching. His brother, Rob, also is in the coaching industry; he works in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans.
Moore spent the previous seven years on staff at Colorado School of the Mines, arriving as an assistant and then climbing the ranks to become head coach. His Orediggers' defenses consistently were among the most feared groups in NCAA DII football.
Moore's only season as head coach was the 13-win, national runner-up campaign.
San Diego has been competitive in the Pioneer Football League; the program posted a seven-win campaign in 2021 and followed that up with an 5-5 ledger in 2022.
But as San Diego seeks to take the next step, the program has moved in a new direction with Moore.
The Toreros open the 2023 season at Cal-Poly and Moore's home debut as head coach will be Sept. 9 against Colorado-Mesa.
