On January 8th, San Diego State called an afternoon press conference to announce some major news regarding the football program. Shortly after that announcement, on the heels of news earlier in the week that head coach Rocky Long had been exploring defensive coordinator opportunities, reports shared that Long was planning to step down.
Long had led the team to double-digit win seasons in four of the past five seasons, and had an overall record of 81-38.
Brady Hoke, who previously led the program for two seasons before leaving for Michigan's head coaching job, will take over as head coach. He spent last season back on the SDSU staff coaching the defensive line after one season each at Oregon (as defensive coordinator), Tennessee (as defensive line coach) and with the Carolina Panthers (as defensive line coach).
An official announcement is expected at their 2pm PST press conference.
Despite the staff accumulating more than nearly 50 wins together over the past five seasons, sources tell FootballScoop that Hoke is planning to make significant changes to the staff.
Here's a look at Long's 2019 staff. We will update the page with new hires as they become official.
