It's not often that a head coach gets an opportunity to come back to a program he had a lot of success at for another opportunity to lead the program, so it's understandable that a lot of eyes are on Scott Frost and how he builds his staff at UCF in his second stint leading the Knights.
Today, we've got a first look at a key hire to his new staff.
Boise State's Steve Cooper has accepted the offensive coordinator role on staff.
Cooper is currently preparing for the first-ever 12-team iteration of the College Football Playoff with Boise State on a first-round bye, and he's an offensive analyst on Spencer Danielson's staff working as assistant quarterbacks coach.
Before joining the Broncos staff, he spent a season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Maine, where they had a top-ten ranked passing offense at the FCS level.
The opportunity to call plays at Maine followed four seasons working with Frost at Nebraska. He served the Huskers in a variety of roles, starting as an offensive quality control coach before being name interim quarterbacks coach and then senior offensive analyst.
For the final two games of the 2021 season, he was designated as the offensive play caller, where he called tight games against two ranked teams to end the year against Wisconsin (#19) and Iowa (#17).
Cooper led the offense at his alma mater Portland State for three seasons, and spent a total of eight seasons on staff there, where they set a number of records, including a lopsided 66-7 domination of FBS program North Texas in 2015.
