Seahawks fire offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb after one season (Alabama)

Ryan Grubb helped the Seattle Seahawks win 10 games in his first season calling plays under Mike Macdonald at the NFL level.

Despite the 10-7 record, the team missed the playoffs, and this morning there are multiple reports that the team has decided to part ways with the veteran college offensive coordinator.

Grubb is the former offensive coordinator for Kalen DeBoer at Washington, and he had originally followed DeBoer to Tuscaloosa before the opportunity to call an NFL offense back in Seattle presented itself.

He and DeBoer's relationship stretches back to 2007, when Grubb took a position coaching the offensive line at Sioux Falls under DeBoer. Just a year later he was promoted to offensive coordinator.

Grubb would go on to coach the offensive line under DeBoer at Eastern Michigan while Kalen called plays, and then followed him west to Fresno State where they took over the same roles for the Bulldogs.

While at Washington, DeBoer and Grubb's offenses were among the most studied schemes in college football, as they had a top 15 scoring offense and the second ranked passing offense in college football. However, that success hadn't translated to the NFL, where issues on the offensive line and a lack of a run game led to too many sacks and pressures to be effective facing exeperienced NFL defensive coordinators.

With the issues Alabama had offensively, especially late in the year and in their bowl game against Michigan, and the longstanding relationship between the two coaches, many will have their eyes on where Grubb ends up.

DeBoer elevated Nick Sheridan to offensive coordinator for the Tide following Grubbs departure to Seattle.
