Shane Beamer and South Carolina expected to elevate Mike Shula to offensive coordinator (Mike Shula)

At his introductory presser as the new head coach at Appalachian State, former South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains shared that the toughest thing about taking the job was having to deliver the news to standout redshirt freshman quarterback LaNorris Sellers, who just put together a breakout campaign.

Good news for Sellers, is it appears the Gamecocks new offensive coordinator will be someone he is very familiar with.

Chris Clark of Gamecock Central shared tonight that senior offensive assistant Mike Shula is expected to be the new offensive coordinator on Shane Beamer's staff.

Shula has spent the past two seasons in that role in Columbia, and is a veteran play caller.

Perhaps most notably is his time spent with the Carolina Panthers from 2013-2017, where he led Cam Newton tto an MVP season in 2015 and also punched their ticket to the Super Bowl.

The 59-year old has also held play calling roles with the Tampa Bay Bucs and New York Giants and, of course, also spent four seasons as the head coach at Alabama (2003-06).
