Daylon Markham stepped up as the interim head coach at Bethel (NAIA - KS) back in July following the departure of AB Stokes from the program and led the the Threshers to a 5-6 record.
Shortly after the calendar turned to December, Markham announced his resignation, leaving an opening at a strong NAIA program.
This morning, sources share with FootballScoop that a quick search has led them to a decision to hire Calvin (D-III - MI) defensive coordinator Josh Lawson as their new head coach.
Lawson joined the Calvin program under Trent Figg back in February of 2023, providing a veteran presence for a program that was literally being built from the ground up.
Calvin recently completed their first season as a full NCAA Division III member and member of the Michigan Collegiate Athletic Conference, finishing the season 2-8 with a roster consisting mainly of freshman and sophomores.
A former coordinator at the FCS and Division II level, Lawson was the defensive coordinator at Arkansas Tech (D-II) prior to joining the Calvin staff.
Prior to that he served as co-special teams coordinator and linebackers coach at Stephen F. Austin for two seasons and served as the defensive play caller at Southern Arkansas for a handful of seasons as well.
This will mark Lawson's first head coaching opportunity, and he takes over a program just a few years removed from winning eight or nine games nine games four straight season (2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022).
