Source: Central Michigan adds former offensive play caller to defensive side of the ball (Wes Fleming)

Wes Fleming and new Central Michigan head coach Matt Drinkall have a relationship that goes back years, and they two are now reuniting in Mount Pleasant.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Fleming has left the staff at Cincinnati, where he was a defensive quality control coach and assistant defensive backs coach to coach the Chippewa defensive backs.

We understand that Fleming is already on campus in the new role.

Before joining the Cincinnati staff, Fleming was a part of a nine-win season at Army, where he served as a defensive quality control coach.

What many will find interesting, is that Fleming cut his teeth on the offensive side of the ball before flipping sides.

He's served in offensive coordinator roles at both Midland (NAIA - NE) as well as Kansas Wesleyan (NAIA).

At Midland, he coached quarterbacks and called an offense that broke single-season records for total points, scoring average, and passing touchdowns.

While at Kansas Wesleyan, working under Drinkall, the Coyotes set program records for wins, total yards, total points, and finished the 2016 season with a number 6 ranking nationally.

Adding to his well-rounded experience, Fleming also has experience as a special teams coordinator, an opportunity he also earned under Drinkall at Kansas Wesleyan.

Sources share that a number of additional assistants are set to join the staff soon. We'll have more on the staff Drinkall is putting together in the coming days.
