Source: Jamey Chadwell and Liberty on verge of adding final defensive assistant (Liberty)

Sources tell FootballScoop that Liberty’s defensive staff is on the verge of again having all of its full-time assistant coaching positions filled.

Aaron Fierbaugh, who had joined the Liberty staff as a senior defensive quality control coach, is expected to be elevated to the Flames’ safeties coach for first-year head man Jamey Chadwell.

Climbing the coaching ranks at Coastal Carolina, where he served as the linebackers coach after initially joining the Chanticleers staff as an defensive analyst, Fierbaugh also had a lengthy stint on staff at the University of South Carolina.

Across multiple head coaches with the Gamecocks, Fierbaugh as an assistant quality control coach helped with self-scouting, opponent scouting and offensive breakdowns, according to his bio.

Additionally, Fierbaugh started his coaching career as a student-assistant under Gus Malzahn at Auburn, where Fierbaugh worked in a variety of roles from player personnel to to recruiting and special teams.

The Flames hired Chadwell to replace Hugh Freeze after Chadwell led Coastal to an average of more than 10 wins per season in each of the previous three years.

Liberty is set to open the Chadwell era with back-to-back home games against Bowling Green and New Mexico State the first two Saturdays of September; the team makes its first road-trip a week later to Buffalo.
