Source: Matt Drinkall and Central Michigan filling coordinator spot with top FCS coordinator (Eastern Washington)

Matt Drinkall is filling one of his coordinator spots with an architect of a top FCS offense, sources share.

Sources tell FootballScoop Jim Chapin, the offensive coordinator at Eastern Washington (FCS), has joined the Chippewas as their new offensive coordinator.

We're told he will also coach the quarterbacks.

This past season, Eastern Washington ranked among the top 10 in a number of offensive categories, including total offense (6th), scoring offense (7th), and rushing offense (5th).

He made an immediate impact upon his arrival, leading an offense in his first season that ranked 8th in scoring and yards per game and 6th in passing.

Chapin arrived in Cheney in 2022 after four seasons at Sioux Falls (D-II - SD), where they won a conference title and produced a Harlon Hill nominee in running back Thuro Reisdorfer.

His arrival in Mount Pleasant will provide Matt Drinkall some critical Michigan ties and familiarity from earlier in his career.

A University of Michigan graduate, Chapin began his coaching career at the high school level, at Troy HS (MI) and then Dexter HS (MI) before going on to coach at Adrian College (D-III - MI).
