Sources: Alabama making major change to defensive staff (Alabama)

After seeing the program's record-setting streak of season with 10 or more wins come to a halt, as well as failing to make the College Football Playoff, Alabama and coach Kalen DeBoer are poised for significant changes, FootballScoop has learned.

Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that DeBoer is parting ways with co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Colin Hitschler.

He was hired away from Wisconsin last January to join DeBoer's inaugural staff.

But the Crimson Tide struggled throughout the season on the defensive side of the ball as Georgia nearly staged an epic comeback in a 34-point performance and Vanderbilt hung 40 on the Tide in the Dores' stunning upset.

Five SEC foes scored at least 24 points against Alabama.

Hitschler got his start at the small college level coordinating special teams at Salve Regina (D-III - RI) and Widener (D-III - PA) before graduate assistant stints at Arkansas State and South Alabama got his foot in the door in major college football.

He would go on to work in a number of roles at South Alabama before taking a defensive quality control job at Cincinnati, where he eventually earned a promotion to safeties coach in 2020 and then was elevated to co-defensive coordinator in 2022.
