Sources: Arkansas State fills staff vacancy from Sun Belt rival (South Alabama Football)

Arkansas State is expected to hire former South Alabama linebackers coach Will Windham to coach the same position, sources told FootballScoop on Friday.

Windham replaces Jon Shalala, who left the staff to pursue an opportunity in private business. Shalala coached the Red Wolves' linebackers for all three seasons of the Butch Jones regime thus far in Jonesboro.

Windham comes aboard after three seasons coaching linebackers at South Alabama.

Prior to that, the Mississippi State grad spent three seasons coaching linebackers and safeties at Kent State. He was a quality control coach on Kirby Smart's first two staffs at Georgia from 2016-17, and coached the defensive line at Davidson in 2015. He served GA stints at Penn State and Mississippi State.

A-State has increased its win total all three seasons under Jones, from 2-10 in 2021, to 3-9 in 2022, to 6-7 with a bowl trip last fall.
