Sources: Blake Gideon to join Texas staff (Texas)

Blake Gideon will be part of Steve Sarkisian's initial Texas staff, sources told FootballScoop on Tuesday.

FootballScoop reported Monday Gideon was likely to join the staff, and we can now confirm that is happening.

We're told Gideon will have a role in the secondary with possible special teams responsibilities as well. He was selected by his peers as FootballScoop's Special Teams Coordinator of the Year for his work at Houston in 2019 and coordinated special teams at Ole Miss this season.

Gideon broke into coaching on a full-time basis as a defensive backs coach at Western Carolina and Georgia State.

The son of longtime Texas high school coach Steve Gideon, Blake is a Texas graduate. A onetime 2-star recruit, Gideon was a 4-year starter at safety.

Following a brief professional career, Gideon broke into coaching on the support staff under his former coordinator Will Muschamp at Florida and Auburn.

While Sarkisian's offensive staff is largely set, the defensive staff is still in flux as the new head 'Horn works to identify a defensive coordinator.

As always, stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
