As Andy Avalos works to finalize his first staff at Boise State, we're hearing that a head coach of a top junior college program is planning to join the staff.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Independence Community College (JC - KS) head coach Kiyoshi Harris is set to join the Boise State staff.
We understand that Harris will have the title of Player Personnel Director for the Broncos program.
Harris was promoted to the head coaching job following the fallout from former head coach Jason Brown's highly controversial comments to a player after the school appeared on Seasons 3 and 4 of the hit Netflix series Last Chance U. As an assistant under Brown, Harris held the title of assistant head coach / offensive line coach / recruiting coordinator for the two seasons prior to getting the bump to head coach.
Taking over a program that went a disappointing 2-8 in 2018, in his first season leading the team, Harris led the program to marked improvement that saw them go 8-2 and win the conference title for the second time in three seasons, which in turn earned him conference coach of the year.
They finished the 2019 season ranked #9 nationally among Junior College programs.
The NJCAA voted back in July to push football from the fall to the spring, so Independence did not play a season this in the fall.
