Sources: Central Michigan, Jim McElwain hiring FCS offensive coordinator B.T. Sherman (morgan state)

JIm McElwain's set to bolster his Central Michigan staff with a top Football Championship Subdivision offensive coordinator.

Sources tell FootballScoop that the veteran McElwain is hiring B.T. Sherman to his CMU staff as the Chippewas new wide receivers coach.

A former prep head coach in Ohio after starring in high school in Cincinnati, Sherman's impact at Morgan State in recent years was pronounced.

Prior to his last two seasons helping orchestrate the Morgan State offense, he led Norfolk State to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's top offense in both scoring (33.2 points per game) and yardage (440 ypg). The Spartans had the league's most efficient passing offense the previous season.

Sherman's ties in the MEAC run deep, with his work at Morgan State, Norfolk State and several seasons at Howard, where he rose to the role of assistant head coach in addition to his offensive duties.

After winning 20 games in his first three seasons at Central Michigan, McElwain is seeking to help the program rebound after back-to-back losing campaigns in 2022-23.

The Chippewas open their 2024 season Aug. 31 against Central Connecticut State before back-to-back road games at Florida International and Illinois.
