Chris Hatcher, among the more tenured coaches in the rugged Southern Conference, is adding an SEC staff member to his Samford Bulldogs organization.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Hatcher is hiring away Thomas Morton from Auburn, where he was the offensive analyst working with quarterbacks.
Per sources, Morton is in line to become Samford's new quarterbacks coach.
A former Southern Miss quarterback who's also coached at Troy, Morton arrives at Hatcher's Samford program after working closely with Hugh Freeze and the Auburn quarterbacks.
Morton's done a little bit of everything on his coaching journey, working on both sides of the line of scrimmage and clawing from unpaid roles into this latest spot on the staff of Hatcher, a veteran college coach with SEC experience as an assistant and closing in on 200 career wins as an NCAA head coach.
Samford is scheduled to open its 2025 season with a Southern Conference clash against The Citadel before a money game on the road at Baylor.
