Sources: D-II program fills head coaching opening with FBS assistant (Featured)

Sources tells FootballScoop that Clark Atlanta (D-II - GA) is planning to hire Tim Bowens as their new head coach. Clark Atlanta is a HBCU program located just outside downtown Atlanta.

Bowens spent last season coaching the running backs at Georgia State. The program recently announced the addition of Cedar Shoals HS (GA) head coach Jimmy Smith as their new running backs coach.

The college coaching veteran joined the Georgia State staff in February of 2018 after four seasons at South Alabama, where he coached the wide receivers for a year before switching to running backs. Bowens also spent two seasons on staff at Samford (FCS - AL), five seasons at UAB, and four seasons at Alabama in roles varying from assistant director of operations to director of high school / NFL relations. In 2006, while on staff in Tuscaloosa, Bowen stepped in as the assistant wide receivers coach while Charlie Harbison had to spent some time away from the program due to injury.

This marks Bowen's first head coaching opportunity at the college level, and while Bowens hasn't served been a college coordinator, he did play wide receiver at Alabama in the late 90's and later served as the head coach at Tanner HS (AL).
