Corico Wright, who played at Clemson and who emerged as a top young defensive assistant the past four seasons for Clay Hendrix’s Furman University program, is making a career leap.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Wright is accepting a role as defensive passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach for Delaware.
The Blue Hens debuted under Ryan Carty in 2022 with an 8-5 season that included advancing to the second round of the Football Championship Subdivision Playoffs.
Likewise, Wright helped the Furman Paladins do the same thing out of the Southern Conference as part of a 10-win season.
In adding responsibilities to his role working in the secondary, Wright continues an impressive career climb. After playing and getting his coaching start at Clemson for Dabo Swinney, Wright worked in the defensive backfield at Murray State, made a one-year stop on staff for former FCS powerhouse James Madison and then spent the past four seasons at Furman, which advanced to multiple FCS Playoff appearances during that time.
Wright also has some NFL experience; he was selected in 2014 to participate in the league’s prestigious Bill Walsh Minority Internship program with the New York Jets.
