East Carolina has a new offensive coordinator in John David Baker, hired away from Ole Miss, and Baker now is poised to add an important new offensive assistant.
Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that East Carolina is hiring Rodney Freeman II to an offensive assistant coaching position.
Freeman II spent the 2023 season on Blake Anderson's Utah State staff, and he's also logged a year at Michigan State as an offensive analyst.
Previously, Freeman II coached at NCAA Division II powerhouse Colorado Mesa, as well as logged experience at the prep level in Texas.
East Carolina hired away Baker from Lane Kiffin's Ole Miss staff after the 2023 regular season concluded. Baker, who was the Rebels' co-offensive coordinator, will run the offensive shop for the Pirates.
ECU is also making an additional hire bringing Hunter MacKay from Ole Miss as tight ends coach. MacKay worked primarily with the offensive line at Ole Miss.
