Sources: Georgia Tech adding defensive line coach with SEC, AAC experience (Kyle Pope)

Kyle Pope is headed out of Memphis after four years and is elevating to the Power 5 level.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Pope, most recently the defensive run game coordinator for the Memphis Tigers, will head to Atlanta and join Brent Key's Yellow Jackets staff as a defensive assistant.

A former standout player at Jacksonville State, Pope will continue to work with defensive linemen in his new role at Georgia Tech.

After playing four years at Jacksonville State and helping the Gamecocks to back-to-back FCS Playoffs appearances in 2013-14, Pope spent two seasons on Nick Saban's Alabama staff as an defensive graduate assistant.

From there, Pope climbed to a full-time, on-field assistant coaching position at Liberty where he coached the Flames's linebackers.

Pope then logged the last four seasons at Memphis, climbing from defensive line coach from 2020-22 into the role of defensive run game coordinator in 2023.

The Tigers punctuated a resurgent 10-win season with a resounding win against Iowa State last month in the Liberty Bowl.

Georgia Tech had a breakthrough campaign in Key's first season as the school's full-time coach.

He led Tech to an 7-6 campaign and a win in the Gasparilla Bowl.
