Grambling's extensive search to find a replacement for Hue Jackson has nearly reached its end.
Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Grambling, a tradition-rich, longtime HBCU powerhouse program, is finalizing a deal to hire Mickey Joseph as the program's next head coach.
The deal has not yet been completed, sources with direct knowledge told FootballScoop Sunday afternoon, but Grambling has remained optimistic that it can finalize a pact; the school has announced a scheduled press conference to welcome a new head coach Monday afternoon.
A Louisiana native with previous experience as a Grambling assistant, Joseph also has coached at top-end Power 5 programs that have included both LSU and Nebraska. Joseph was an offensive assistant coach on LSU's 2019 College Football Playoff championship team.
Most recently, Joseph was on Scott Frost's staff at Nebraska and then served as the Cornhuskers' interim head coach during the 2022 season after Frost was fired.
Joseph had a standout playing career at Nebraska, where his work there helped him to an CFL stint with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Grambling parted ways with Hue Jackson after the conclusion of the 2023 season, the second at the helm for the former NFL head coach.
Joseph sat out of coaching during the 2023 season after he exited from Nebraska.
