Vyron Brown is stepping down as the head coach at Lane College, sources told FootballScoop on Friday.
Lane College is an HBCU school located in Jackson, Tenn. The Dragons compete in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference of Division II.
Brown was named Lane's head coach on Jan. 16, 2020. His debut season of 2021 saw the Dragons defeat Tuskegee for the first time in school history, set a single-game school record with 71 points, finish ranked No. 10 among Division II HBCUs, finish second in the SIAC in scoring and place a quarterback, running back and wide receivers on the All-SIAC First Team.
That season proved to be Brown's most successful, however. Lane went 5-5 in 2022 and 2-8 in 2023.
The Dragons completed a 4-6 season with a 41-28 win over Lincoln University of Missouri on Nov. 9. Lane won three of its final four games down the stretch, which turned out to be the final four games of the Brown era at the school.
A Grambling graduate, Brown joined the program as offensive coordinator and running backs coach before ascending to the top job. He previously served as the offensive coordinator at Texas Southern, Grambling, and Shaw University, as well as stops at Alabama State and in the Louisiana high school ranks.
