Remember the name Jack Walker.
Less than four years removed from playing quarterback at Southern Miss and just a few months from coaching quarterbacks at his alma mater, Walker has been hired at FCS program Murray State, sources told FootballScoop Wednesday.
Walker is set to continue coaching quarterbacks, FootballScoop has learned, for the Racers as they enter Year 2 of the Jody Wright rebuild.
After he logged two seasons as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Walker was hired into the full-time quarterbacks coach's role prior to the 2024 season.
He worked under offensive coordinator Chip Long, a former Broyles Award finalist, and when Southern Miss had a regime change late in the 2024 campaign, Walker took over offensive play-calling duties down the final weeks of the Golden Eagles season.
The former prep standout Walker signed with Georgia State, revived his playing career at Northwest Mississippi Community College and then spent the next several years as a player and coach at Southern Miss.
Murray State hired Wright away from South Carolina and he immediately began to rebuild the Racers program.
The Racers open their 2025 season Aug. 30 at ETSU, under the guidance of new head coach Will Healy, and then host Southeastern Louisiana the next week in their home opener.
