Stanford is expected to hire Fred Guidici away from San Jose State to serve as a special teams quality control coach, sources told FootballScoop on Thursday.
A fixture on the Bay Area football scene for four decades now, Guidici's career began at San Jose's Blackford High School in 1984 as an undergraduate at San Jose State. He's since spent time on nearly every football field in the greater vicinity of San Pablo Bay, depositing stints with Santa Clara, Stanford, the Oakland Raiders, the San Jose SaberCats, Menlo College (including three seasons as head coach), San Jose State, the College of San Mateo, and SJSU again.
Along the way, Guidici forged a reputation as a special teams expert. He was the Spartans' special teams coordinator from 2012-14 and again from 2018-19. He moved to an analyst role with the SJSU special teams in 2020.
Guidici's unit led FBS with seven blocked kicks in 2013.
Stanford's first season under new head coach Troy Taylor begins Sept. 1 at Hawai'i.
