With early signing day approaching, sources tell FootballScoop that Boston College head coach Steve Addazio will return in 2019.
Addazio's current contract takes him through the 2020 season, and with the early signing day just a few weeks away, one can imagine the questions he and his staff are having to address on the recruiting trail. Something as simple as a 1-year extension are pretty standard in situations like this, but so far, nothing along those lines has been announced. However, sources tell FootballScoop Addazio will be back.
Back in December of 2014, Addazio signed a contract extension that tacked another two-years onto his original six-year contract to take him through 2020.
Addazio took over the Boston College program in 2013 after a two year stint at Temple where he went 9-4 in 2011 as a member of the MAC before slipping a bit to 4-7 as the Owls moved to the Big East. At Boston College, Addazio immediately took the Eagles to back-to-back bowls, finishing 7-6 before a slight dip to 3-9 in 2015. The past three seasons he's led BC to 7-win seasons and bowl games, and has them sitting at 7-5 this season as they await their bowl destination Saturday.
Currently, Addazio sits with a perfect .500 record at BC at 38-38 overall, and 18-30 in ACC play.
Under his leadership, Addazio's teams have had some really special moments, including hosting College GameDay for their match up earlier this year against Clemson (their first trip to campus since 2009), a 2,000-yard rusher and Heisman Trophy candidate in Andre Williams in 2013, and also an upset over a top-10 USC team back in 2014.
This off season will be an interesting one for him, as he's tasked with replacing offensive coordinator Scot Loeffler, who left to become the head coach at Bowling Green. A former offensive line coach under Urban Meyer, Addazio's offenses at both BC and Temple have been known for their physical, run-oriented approach.
