Sources: Tennessee Tech adding FBS coaching veteran to defensive staff (David Mackey)

Bobby Wilder has been a proven program builder -- elevating Old Dominion from the ground up -- and rebuilder, as evidenced by his 7-5 debut campaign atop Tennessee Tech in 2024.

Wilder now is working to position the Golden Eagles for the future, and he's making a strong defensive staff addition in the process.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Wilder is adding coaching veteran David Mackie to the TTU defensive staff.

Specifically, Mackie is expected to coach the inside linebackers for the Golden Eagles.

Having been on Jon Sumrall's SunBelt-winning staff at Troy in 2022-23 as a defensive analyst, he arrives at Tennessee Tech after also working with the linebackers at FCS program Stephen F. Austin in 2024.

Mackie's considerable experience also includes a lengthy stint at East Carolina, as well as Hampton and Georgia Military College.

Tech, coming off its first winning season since 2011, has early-season tilts in the fall against Chattanooga and Davidson, as well as a late-season money game at SEC program Kentucky.
