Sources: Tennessee Tech lands new defensive assistant (Darron Paschal Jr.)

With spring practice just weeks away, Bobby Wilder has added a defensive assistant with FBS experience to his Tennessee Tech coaching staff.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Darron Paschal Jr. is joining the Golden Eagles as their new cornerbacks coach.

It's another step on the career climb for Paschal Jr., a former Wofford Terrier.

Most recently, Paschal Jr. coached at the FBS level in 2024 at Kennesaw State, where he worked in the secondary.

He's also coached at Emory & Henry, where he helped the Wasps secondary pace all of NCAA Division II football with 21 interceptions.

Prior to that stint, Paschal Jr. initiated his coaching career at North Greenville University, also an NCAA DII program.

Wilder helped Tech engineer a breakthrough-campaign in 2024, when the Golden Eagles posted an 7-5 ledger and nearly earned an FCS Playoff bid. His team took FBS program MTSU, coached by Derek Mason, to the wire in a one-score loss to open the season and later upset nationally ranked UT Martin.

The Golden Eagles get back-to-back early-season home games in September against Chattanooga and Davidson; they close the regular season at home against Jason Simpson's UT-Martin squad in a contest that could have significant FCS Playoff implications.
